A direct TGV from Paris-Montparnasse to Angers-Saint-Laud takes around an hour and a half, with several departures a day, fast enough that Angers works comfortably as a single-day trip from the capital. Booking ahead on SNCF Connect tends to get the better fares.
From the station to the fortress
Angers-Saint-Laud sits close to the city centre, and the château is about a fifteen-minute walk away through the town. If you'd rather ride, the nearest tram stop to the château is Ralliement, and the nearest bus stops are named Château and Office du tourisme.
Driving from Paris
By car the A11 motorway puts Angers roughly three hours from Paris, depending on traffic: slower than the train for a single day trip, but useful if you're combining the château with a wider tour of the Loire valley and its vineyards. The château stands in a pedestrian zone, so expect a short walk from the nearest car parks, and allow extra time in high season.
Combining Angers with the rest of the Loire
Angers sits at the western edge of the Loire valley, within reach of the region's other châteaux by car or onward train. It doesn't pair easily with a single day trip from Paris if you want to see more than Angers itself, so a car or a multi-day itinerary is the more realistic way to combine it with the valley further east.
